Lakewood Leader for October 30, 2014

Cooler weather for us in Lakewood means that Fall is here and the holidays are just around the corner. We have many reasons to look forward! In November we will think and talk about stewardship. We will celebrate the ministries of this church – and the wider church as we do Kingdom work together. We have such a wonderful spirit of generosity here. Each year has brought new ideas and fresh approaches to “being the church.”

Our Columbarium is near completion. Take a minute to look when you pass by. We are the grateful beneficiaries of Scott Windle’s beautiful design, Dave Landis’ careful supervision, and many generous gifts from this congregation. We hope that this ministry will be a comfort for many years to come.

On November 9th we will have our annual Charge Conference. Each year as we prepare the paperwork, nominate persons to serve, and look back at the accomplishments and ministries of the previous year, I am amazed at how busy we have been.

We look forward together to our “quieter, gentler” stewardship time. We will talk and think about our commitment to the church this month, then on the 23rd we will bring our cards of commitment to the altar together. Following the service, we will have lunch together and decorate the church for Christmas! It is hard to believe that the next week on Sunday, November 30, Advent will begin.

November is a busy month. It stretches us from Trunk or Treat, All Saints Sunday through Charge Conference, Thanksgiving, Stewardship and the beginning of Advent! The next several weeks will be full of celebration, wonderful traditions, and the new things that God is doing through us at Lakewood UMC. It is an amazing time to be in this amazing place.

Peace,

Gayle
