Antiracism Devotion
As an act of devotion to God and our neighbors (especially our neighbors of color), we are hosting weekly meeting around the topic of antiracist work. All are welcome to the discussion on Wednesdays at 8pm, please email office@mylakewoodchurch.org for Zoom access instructions.
This past summer, we discussed the book White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo, and you can still access our discussion guide linked here. We have also read and discussed I'm Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness, by Austin Channing Brown, articles about our own history here in Dallas, TX, Anti-racist devotions by the bishops of the United Methodist Church, and articles about anti-Asian hate.
The book we are just starting in May 2021 is An African American and Latinx History of the United States, by Paul Ortiz. We would love for you to learn with us and join the conversation.
We recognize these books are not the first or last word on dealing with our racism, but thet are steps in a long journey. We commit to pairing the practice of awareness of racism with real acts of support and advocacy.
