Spreading the News of Inclusion: Northaven UMC’s Reconciling Ministries Event
On Sunday, January 29, Northaven UMC and our local Reconciling Ministries Council invited clergy and laity members of Methodist churches in the Metroplex to attend an informational meeting about the Reconciling Ministries Network.
A panel, consisting of one representative from each of the seven reconciling churches in the Dallas area, spoke about what being involved in a reconciling, inclusive and inviting congregation means to each of them. The panel, including Mary Zaby from Lakewood, was a diverse group with a wide variety of experiences to share, perspectives to communicate and heartwarming stories to tell! After the panel discussion and questions, two trained Reconciling Ministries Network coaches provided additional information concerning the process of exploring the process.
The room was filled to capacity, and there was much interest in exploring this topic, which has become so important to us at Lakewood UMC. Thanks to Rev. Dr. Gayle Landis, Nancy Fomby and Becky Heflin for so wonderfully representing our congregation on the Reconciling Ministries Council!
