A word from our pastor...
October 30, 2015
It’s Time!
Time has surely flown and believe it or not November has come. It is time for all of us at Lakewood to think about stewardship. It is our custom to think ahead of time about our plan for giving for the new year. New ministries and renewed excitement call us to rededicate ourselves to God’s work. Blessings surround us – it is time to give thanks.
A sure way to make a difference in the world is by giving generously to the church. I wish I could tell you that it doesn’t really matter what each person gives – that somehow it all works out – but that isn’t really true. The lights do not come on by magic, nor do the doors open. Salaries aren’t paid if offerings are not received. Our apportioned giving to the wider ministries of the church are not covered if we do not do our share. Some of these commitments are not exciting or glamorous, but they are the foundation of all the ministries we offer. Deep faithfulness is required of each of us.
Many areas of exciting ministry call us to give our time as well as our money. I hope that while you are thinking about giving financially, you will also consider giving hours. The list of ministries is long. Choose one that touches your heart and make it your own.
There are many ways Lakewood witnesses to the love of God by loving our neighbors. You can make a difference here. I hope you begin to think about the ways your time and money can help. I look forward to Commitment Sunday, November 22, and to the opportunity for service and thanksgiving we will share. We will follow our worship service with a potluck lunch. The main course will be provided and we invite everyone to bring a side dish or dessert to share.
Peace,
Gayle
