Lakewood Leader for July 2015

 June 29, 2015

It is time to brush up on your your float decorating skills – the Lakewood parade is just around the corner. This year’s theme is “Lakewood Honors Heros.” Lakewood UMC will once again have a float in the parade and extends an invitation to anyone who would like to come to the parking lot on Friday, July 3rd, at 6 p.m. to help decorate this year’s float. It is always a lot of fun. The parade begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 4th, at the intersection of Lakewood Blvd. and Cambria. If you would like to ride on the church’s float, you need to be at the church by 8:15 a.m. Be sure to let us know if you are planning to ride on the float.

Then, just to keep the celebration going, we will have a hamburger lunch immediately after worship on Sunday, July 5th. The church will provide the hamburgers, buns, and drinks but will welcome side dishes and desserts to go along with the hamburgers. As you can see from the pictures from last year, we always have so much fun around this celebration. We hope everyone can join in the fun with us. And be sure to include your friends and family for all of these events. The more the merrier!!

MISSION MOMENTS…

The United Methodist Women together with the Harmony Sunday School class gathered the required items and assembled 118 health kits which were delivered to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) during Annual Conference.  These kits provide basic necessities to people who have been forced to leave their homes because of human conflict or natural disaster.

In response to a need for men’s underwear from the Oak Lawn Community Outreach Center, Lakewood collected 96 pairs of underwear and 18 t-shirts for the center.

Kudos to everyone at Lakewood who participated in these two very worthy projects!!

The Church Office will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
