December 31, 2014
Welcome to 2015! It’s hard to believe. I think I just adjusted to writing 2014 on my checks. Advent and Christmas have been wonderful, so it is tempting to linger awhile. But the exciting things we have planned for 2015 pull me forward with a smile on my face! Here are a few ideas to start the happy new year.
- Come to Church. Your presence is important.
- Bring a friend. Lakewood is a great place to be!
- Visit our new website.
- Like us on Facebook.
- Join a Sunday School class or Bible Study.
- Make a new friend. Lakewood is full of great folks! Say hello to at least three new people each week.
Most importantly-- invite, invite, invite. We have a great story to tell and share. The Good News of Jesus Christ is too wonderful to keep to ourselves. We live in a world in need of the wonderful, unconditional love of God. You are the best person to share it.
Peace,
Gayle

Shoe Box Gifts for the Homeless

The Sunday of the White Rock Marathon is always an exciting day for us! To avoid being unable to attend church on that day, we plan the day as a “Church Marathon,” as well!
On December 14, this year’s “Marathon” Day, we met for an early breakfast, followed by a Communion Service, Sunday School, a unique worship service, lunch together, and an afternoon of wrapping shoe boxes and filling them with goodies for the homeless in Dallas. Our 80 boxes contained toiletries, toothbrushes, socks, hats, pens and pencils, candy, and much more. What a wonderful day to avoid the Marathon traffic by spending the day at the church!
Sock and Underwear Drive Benefiting Crossroads Community Services
Throughout the month of November, the Lakewood United Methodist Women sponsored a Sock and Underwear Drive benefiting the clients of Crossroads Community Services (CCS). We collected 22 packages of women’s socks, 12 packages of women’s briefs, 7 packages of men’s socks, and 13 packages of men’s boxers and briefs. We also received one pajama set for men. CCS sends their thanks to Lakewood UMC for being a kind and giving church to the homeless of greater Dallas. Thanks to all for your participation!
Coming Soon: A New Look for the Lakewood Leader Newsletter
Our new website at www.mylakewoodchurch.org now gives us the capability to compose our newsletter directly on the website. With one click, we can also send the email to church members and friends. The newsletter will have a different look and will likely become more sophisticated over time, once we get used to the new format.
We will be transitioning to this new format over the next month or two, but we will continue to ensure that members and friends who do not have email addresses will receive the newsletter and calendar via regular mail.
